Michael Lee Firkins is an unknown guitarist to many. You don't hear much about his music and playing and honestly I can't give a solid reason why! I learned about his existence about 17 years ago. A friend of mine, Ralf who was and I assume still is a fantastic drummer, said I should listen to this guy and I was amazed! Before I was completely into Steve Vai and Joe Satriani but this was something else completely... I taped the recording on a cassette and tried to figure out what this guy was playing. After a while I lost the tape and eventually forgot about Michael until a couple of years ago. Suddenly I remembered that I knew this great guitar player I wanteda student of mine to know about but I couldn't remember his name. After weeks of braindigging the name of Michael Lee Firkins resurfaced and I immediately looked up his music on youtube. In my opinion Michael has never gained the access to a fanbase that he deserves. I have to be honest in saying that I pretty much only know his debut album, but it is a gem of the most precious kind. If you don't know this guitarist than I say look up his music, you will not be disappointed!
